The City of Atlanta will reopen four additional cooling centers Monday in anticipation of heat index values returning to the upper 90s by Tuesday, Mayor Andre Dickens’ office announced Sunday.
The four centers — located at the Adamsville-Collier Heights, Center Hill, Old Fourth Ward, and Southeast Atlanta neighborhood centers — will join the eight centers already open. Together, they will offer relief to residents across all 12 of the city’s neighborhoods.
Each center will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. through at least Friday, with hours extended as needed based on the forecast.
“Atlanta’s cooling centers are a critical lifeline for residents without reliable air conditioning at home,” Dickens said in a statement. “I encourage everyone to check on their neighbors and use these facilities if they need to escape the heat.”
The city is also partnering with MARTA to provide free rides to and from any designated cooling center through the end of the heat wave. Riders can simply board any bus or train and inform the operator that they’re heading to a cooling center.

Forecasters are calling for highs in the mid-90s Monday and Tuesday, with heat index values approaching 105 by Wednesday. The weather service is expected to issue another heat advisory Monday afternoon.
