The National Weather Service office in Peachtree City has issued a Heat Advisory for parts of eastern Georgia from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with forecast heat index values of 105 to 108 expected across the warned area.
NWS Atlanta said the heat will combine with high humidity to push apparent temperatures well above the actual air temperature. Afternoon highs are forecast in the mid-90s across metro Atlanta and the upper 90s to near 100 across central Georgia.
The agency urged residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, avoid midday sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should not be left in vehicles.
In Fayette County, the City of Fayetteville lifted its Williamsburg Way boil-water advisory at 1 p.m. Wednesday as scheduled, after a Tuesday water main break near Downtown Fayetteville dropped pressure for some customers. The city’s Public Services Division said samples from the affected zone tested clean after repairs and a 24-hour flush cycle.
Customers who experienced water outages or low pressure should continue to use bottled or boiled water for drinking and cooking for at least 24 hours after service was restored, the city said.
Atlanta Gas Light and Georgia Power reported no major weather-related outages as of 5 a.m. Wednesday.
