After losing 10 of 13 games, the Braves got a much-needed boost in San Francisco. But injuries continue to shuffle the pitching staff, with Robert Suarez landing on the injured list and prospect Hurston Waldrep heading back up.

The Atlanta Braves finally found their footing in the Bay Area.

Following a challenging stretch that saw them drop 10 of their last 13 games, the Braves snapped a four-game losing streak Friday night with a gritty 3-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park.

The win provides a critical boost for Atlanta (49-31), which has managed to maintain its lead in the National League East despite a recent wave of injuries and roster reshuffling.

Albies, Lopez Lead the Way

After struggling to generate offense during their four-game skid, the Braves got on the board early on Friday. Ozzie Albies drove in two runs, providing the key offensive punch the team had been sorely missing. Mauricio Dubón also made his presence felt, recording two hits and scoring twice.

On the mound, Reynaldo López made a successful return to the starting rotation. López, who has been one of the Braves’ most consistent arms this season, worked three solid innings, allowing only one run before handing the ball over to the bullpen.

From there, Atlanta’s relievers shut down the Giants’ offense, culminating in another stellar outing from closer Raisel Iglesias. With a clean ninth inning, Iglesias converted his 16th consecutive save of the season. The dominant closer has now converted 34 consecutive save opportunities dating back to the 2025 season, establishing himself as one of the most reliable late-inning arms in the Major Leagues.

Pitching staff reshuffled as Suarez goes to IL

While the victory was a relief, the Braves’ pitching depth faced yet another test before the game even started.

The team announced Friday afternoon that right-handed pitcher Robert Suarez has been placed on the 15-day injured list, backdated to June 23, due to right elbow inflammation. Suarez has been a key piece of the bullpen, making his sudden absence a significant blow.

To fill his spot, the Braves recalled top pitching prospect Hurston Waldrep to the major league roster. Waldrep, a hard-throwing right-hander, is expected to provide length out of the bullpen or step in as a spot starter if needed.

Additionally, the Braves outrighted veteran right-hander Carlos Carrasco to Triple-A Gwinnett. Carrasco subsequently elected free agency, ending his brief stint with the organization.

“It’s always tough to lose a guy like Robert, but injuries are part of the game. Having young arms like Hurston ready to step up is exactly why we build depth. We’ve got to keep moving forward.”

— Braves Manager Brian Snitker

Trade deadline looming

With the MLB trade deadline just over a month away on July 31, General Manager Alex Anthopoulos is expected to be highly active. Inside sources suggest the Braves are already scouting top-of-the-rotation starters and power bats to shore up the lineup ahead of the postseason push.

For now, the Braves will look to build on Friday’s momentum as they continue their weekend series against the Giants.
