The Atlanta Hawks traded guard Devin Carter to the Sacramento Kings on Sunday for a 2033 second-round pick and cash considerations, the team announced.
Carter, 24, was acquired by Atlanta in February as part of the multi-player package that brought Dejounte Murray to Atlanta in 2022. He averaged 6.1 points and 2.8 assists in 47 games for the Hawks last season.
“This was an opportunity to add another asset while giving Devin a fresh start,” Hawks general manager Onsi Saleh said in a statement. “We thank him for his work here and wish him the best in Sacramento.”
The trade frees up a roster spot and a small amount of cap space for the Hawks, who remain active in free agency after re-signing CJ McCollum on Friday and acquiring Aaron Wiggins from Oklahoma City on Monday.
Atlanta is expected to use the open roster spot to sign a veteran free agent in the days ahead. The team is reportedly interested in a backup center behind Onyeka Okongwu, with several names under consideration.
The 2033 second-round pick gives Atlanta another future asset in a depleted war chest. The Hawks have already traded most of their future first-round picks as part of the Murray and Saddiq Bey deals in 2022.
The Hawks open NBA Summer League play at the Salt Lake City Summer League on Monday.
