ATLANTA — School is back for much of the metro, but the free-and-easy calendar did not clock out with the last summer Friday.
AJC Access Atlanta’s free-August roundup and the paper’s August book-events list give readers a practical early-month plan: a free outdoor movie Thursday night in Midtown, a free author reading in Avondale Estates the same evening, and a longer runway of markets, park fitness, and festival weekends that do not require a ticket markup.
Thursday, Aug. 6: Movies on the Square
Access Atlanta flags “The Incredibles” as the free outdoor screening at the Plaza at Colony Square, 1197 Peachtree St. NE, from 7 to 9 p.m. Bring a blanket or chair. Outside food and drinks are not allowed; food is available from nearby establishments. It is one of the simplest midweek wind-downs left before August weekends fill with ticketed fests.
Thursday, Aug. 6: Ben Wakeman at The Book Bird
The AJC’s August book calendar lists local author Ben Wakeman discussing “Harmony House,” an apocalyptic novel about six strangers under one roof, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at The Book Bird, 70 N. Avondale Road, Avondale Estates. The event is free to attend, or $18.99 with the paperback. Readers who want a quiet indoor option while storms threaten outdoor plans have a clean pivot a few miles east of Midtown.
