MARTA is reminding runners and spectators heading to the 57th Peachtree Road Race on Saturday that the train is the safest and most reliable way to get there.
The transit agency is the official partner of the Northside Hospital Peachtree Road Race and the Peachtree Health & Fitness Expo, which returns to Lenox Square this week after several years at other locations.
The expo runs Thursday through Friday in climate-controlled tents in the Macy’s parking lot at Lenox Square. Runners who did not purchase UPS shipping when they registered will need to pick up their race numbers on-site.
On race day, MARTA will run trains on their standard Saturday schedule but with additional cars to handle the surge. The closest station to the start at Peachtree and Lenox roads is the Lenox MARTA station on the Gold Line, a short walk from both the expo and the starting corrals.
MARTA bus service will operate as scheduled, but the agency is warning of significant street closures around Buckhead starting at 4 a.m. Saturday. Race organizers and the Atlanta Police Department have set up dedicated bus shuttles from Lenox Square to the start line.
“MARTA is the safest and most reliable way to attend the Peachtree Road Race and the expo,” the agency said in a media advisory. “Avoid the headache of parking, and skip the postrace traffic.”
Customers are asked to respect the law, the MARTA system and each other while riding. Riders can use the MARTA app or call 404-848-4911 to report problems or suspicious behavior.
